DOE Issues $343 Million Loan Guarantee for Nevada Transmission Project

February 15, 2011

Van Ness Feldman advised the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office on Federal regulatory matters in connection with its $343 million loan guarantee to support the One Nevada Transmission Line (ON Line), a project jointly owned by Great Basin Transmission South, LLC and NV Energy.  Van Ness Feldman worked in conjunction with Shearman & Sterling, which served as lead counsel to the Department of Energy (DOE) on the deal.

ON Line is the first electric transmission line project to receive a loan guarantee from DOE.   Located in Nevada, the 235 mile 500 kilovolt new transmission line will deliver approximately 600 megawatts of electricity, including renewable energy resources, in northern Nevada.  The project will help integrate existing transmission systems in northern and southern Nevada to improve grid reliability and reduce power costs.

Leading the firm’s efforts on the ON Line project were Members Doug Smith, Joe Nelson, and Bob Nordhaus, assisted by Associates Jeff Winmill and Henry Stern.
