Executive Order: Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas

"Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas," issued on January 24, 2025, mandates federal agencies to take immediate actions to ensure adequate water resources in Southern California to combat wildfires and improve disaster response. The order directs the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of the Interior, and the Secretary of Agriculture to report within 15 days on all available authorities to bolster wildfire fighting measures. It also instructs the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce to override existing activities that hinder water delivery efforts and to maximize water deliveries to high-need communities, even if it means bypassing state or local laws.
